The innkeepers

Karine Cantin

Karine is originally from Thetford Mines and has worked in the environmental field for several years. She holds a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's degree in environment. Before becoming co-owner of the Auberge, she worked for various MRC's and at the Ressourcerie des Frontières especially in waste management. Although she has no experience in the restaurant business, Karine loves good wine and good food.

Jean Desrosiers

Jean is originally from Matane in Gaspésie. He holds a degree in instrumentation and control. However, he did not work in the field. Liking challenges, he worked in the Canadian Tire of his city to finally obtain a position as assistant manager. Then, at the age of 21, he became manager of the Fleurimont branch in Sherbrooke. He stayed there for 8 years before leaving for new challenges. Jean had his own business before he started mentoring. He helps new entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs in difficulty. In his personal life, Jean is also very active. He has been a volunteer for Hockey Sherbrooke and is involved in municipal politic.

The hostel

They met through their work at the Frontier Resourcery. During a sabbatical year, the couple living in Fitch Bay went to drink coffee in a business for sale. The sign had just been put up and Karine, who loved going to coffee shops during her student years, thought it was a shame that the business in the heart of Stanstead would disappear. The couple saw a great opportunity to open a business in the heart of Stanstead that would unite the small town community. Already having a foot in the lodging business, as they were already renting out their home in Fitch Bay, Karine and Jean embarked on a new project and it was in 2018 that Auberge Le Sunshine was born.

Both concerned about the importance of a place that knows how to bring the Stanstead community together, Karine and Jean embarked on this beautiful adventure. Since Stanstead is a small town, they wanted to create a link between the different businesses and be close to their community. The importance of acceptance of differences and a warm welcome makes L'Auberge Le Sunshine a place where everyone can feel at home, that was Karine and Jean's goal.
